Lakeland Students Compete In Destination Imagination

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- The Lakeland Central School Districts' Destination Imagination teams competed March 5 at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry.

The district had 20 teams that qualified for the NYS DI Tournament.

In all, 118 students from five schools took part in the tournament. 

Six of the district teams were brand new teams this year. Five teams took first place in the Instant Challenge. 

The following teams qualified for the state tournament being held April 9 in Binghamton:

Challenge A - Technical Elementary Level 

  • 1st place - The Seven Crazy Creators from Ben Franklin 
  • 2nd place Awesome Squad from Van Cort 
  • 1st place Instant Challenge - The Seven Crazy Creators Middle Level 
  • 1st place - Awesome Rockets from Copper Beech Challenge B - Scientific Elementary Level 
  • 2nd place - The Chubby Narwhals from Van Cortlandtville 
  • 1st place Instant Challenge - The Chubby Narwhals Middle Level 
  • 1st place - The Brain Train from Lakeland Copper Beech 
  • 2nd place - Einstein's Awesome Destiny from Lakeland Copper Beech and Ben Franklin Challenge C - Fine Arts Middle Level
  • 2nd place - The Napoleon Complex from Copper Beech 
  • 1st place Instant Challenge - The Napoleon Complex 
Challenge E - Structural Elementary Level 
  • 2nd place - Death Ray Panthers from Van Cortlandtville ES 
  • 3rd place - Super Sonic Six from Van Cortlandtville Middle Level 2nd place - Insert Cool Name [Here] from Copper Beech 
  • 1st place Instant Challenge - Insert Cool Name [Here] Project Outreach - Service Learning Elementary Level 
  • 1st place - Mind Shakers from Ben Franklin 
  • 1st place Instant Challenge - Mind Shakers. Although, they didn't qualify for the states in Challenge A – Technical competition, the Just-Us League team from Lakeland Copper Beech were awarded a medal for their performance
