Brewster Teen Earns Top Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete Award

BREWSTER, N.Y. -- 17-year-old Allie McCarthy, a senior at Brewster High School who competes on a Danbury gymnastics team, was selected by the Section 1 Gymnastics Committee to receive the Section 1 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete Award.

She competed Feb. 27 at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association's championships in Latham and placed eighth.

A gymnast since age 4, she is on the Junior Olympic team at Gymnastics Revolution in Danbury. Allie was the Connecticut State Champion in 2013 and 2014.

She joined the Brewster High School Varsity Gymnastics Team in seventh grade and has been named All League and All Section every year.

She placed first on the balance beam at the Section 1 Divisionals, with a 9.3 -- held on Feb. 1 -- at Odyssey Gymnastics in Mahopac; and third at The Section 1 Sectionals on Feb. 4 at Carmel High School, with a 9.275, which earned her a spot on the Section 1 State Team as a balance beam specialist.
