Under state law, a runoff is required in the event of a tie unless each candidate consents to waiving it, according to Minners.
Candidate Thomas Robertson agreed to a waiver but opponent Danielle Pack McCarthy did not, according to the clerk. Had both candidates consented to a waiver, a drawing of lots would have be held by a judge, Minners previously explained. A Friday deadline had been set for the candidates to make their decisions.
Pack McCarthy and Robertson each finished with 90 votes in connection with the March 18 regular election. Minners recalled that the ballots were counted three times.
The candidates will run on the same party ballots lines as they previously did, Minners confirmed. She explained that the runoff will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at Nelsonville Village Hall, which is located at 258 Main St. and accessible via the Pearl Street entrance.
Prospective voters who are seeking absentee ballots can go to Village Hall during regular business hours and apply, according to Minners. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. The absentee ballots will count as long as they are received by election day, Minners said.
