A 20-year-old man died after gunfire erupted during a police chase following a burglary investigation, Pennsylvania State Police said Monday, Sept. 8.
Scranton Police were investigating a burglary on Sunday, Sept. 7, in which Christian Santiago was suspected of stealing a .30-06 rifle from a relative’s home, troopers said.
After Santiago sent a family member a photo of the rifle and ammunition, the family member voluntarily went to police and obtained an involuntary mental health commitment warrant, according to state police.

A multigenerational American family is missing after a small private plane apparently went down off the Bahamas while heading home to Florida.
The four family members, who are from Miami, were aboard a PA-34 Piper five-seat aircraft that disappeared Monday, Sept. 7, according to multiple reports. The US Coast Guard and Bahamian authorities launched a search-and-rescue operation.

Three more tornadoes ripped through four Pennsylvania counties less than two weeks after four twisters battered York and Lancaster counties, the National Weather Service confirmed on Friday, Sept. 4.
All three tornadoes from the Tuesday, Sept. 1 storms were rated EF1. They carved a combined 8.45-mile path through Potter, Tioga, Montour, and Lancaster counties, according to the NWS.
