Rounds of severe storms with drenching downpours have closed roads, flooded homes, and destroyed roads across Connecticut. According to the National Weather Service, Monroe was one of the hardest-hit areas, with 9.98 inches of rain on Sunday, Aug. 18. Firefighters and police worked throughout the night to rescue trapped drivers and residents from rapid flooding. Hundreds Without Power In NJ, More Storms Possible Late In The Day
Thousands of New Jersey residents woke up Monday morning, Aug. 19 without power due to Sunday's storm. And according to the National Weather Service, more stormy weather could be on the way for later in the day. As of 6:40 a.m., JCP&L was reporting the most outages with the following areas without power: Clinton, 880; Branchville, 150; Hopatcong, 215; Long Branch/Asbury Park, 350; Lakewood, 265. A line of storms is now moving across the region from west to east, producing drenching downpours that are flooding some areas. A radar image of the region above, from just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, shows severe storms marked in red. Tens of thousands are without power after a severe storm swept through the Northeast overnight. At around 7 a.m. Thursday, June 27, a total of around 35,000 customers in New York are without electricity, according to poweroutage.us. Most of the outages are in areas farther north with a combined 27,110 outages in Orange, Dutchess, and Ulster counties.
